My Artisan Hand Tools for Jewelry Making

Handmade Ear Wires - Hammered Signature Kite II

One thing I take pride in is the fact that I alone, from start to finish, create all my own metalwork jewelry and supply findings.  Except for closed jump rings as I no longer make those (I get them from my bulk metal supplier).  Other than that it's all me.

From designing to creating, packaging and shipping, communicating with my customers, and all the other aspects of operating a business, it keeps me quite busy.  Some people have asked me if I would ever consider hiring others to help me or even join in on the "handmade manufactured" club so that I can get things out quicker, etc.  Honestly, no and no.  Sure, it would lessen my time frame for starters, but it's simply not for me - ever.  I'm a one gal show who enjoys what I do very much.

A few of my hand tools for jewelry making

Anyway, I use a variety of hand tools to create with.  Some are the typical tools such as cutters, hammers, a variety of pliers, etc.  And then there are some unconventional ones, which I'll save for my next post.

So this is just a little peak in my studio for now, but I plan on posting more studio happenings so you can see what I do for a living.  Please know that I'm trying to keep up with blogging and other social networking, but on top of running my business, my home, life, etc., spare time gets kind of thin.  I'm also a birder and on most weekends I'm out in nature with my hubby.  Speaking of, if you love birds and/or nature I post our adventures on Instagram.

Peace,
Rocki

Awareness Ribbon Earrings - Artisan Style

Handmade Earrings - Artisan Awareness Ribbons

Inspiration comes in many forms and styles.  This beautiful pair of sterling silver earrings came to be after pondering my Awareness Ribbon tattoo and some of my other scroll design jewelry.

Artisan Awareness Ribbon Earrings

I wanted more of a worn and rustic look, so I hammered my little handmade hoop ear wires and the dangles then oxidized and hand finished for antique appeal.

You can find these earrings in my handmade jewelry shop, along with many other pieces.  If this pair happens to be sold, no problem as these will be made to order after that time.

Peace,
Rocki

Hoop Earrings - Handmade Fine Silver Jewelry

Fine Silver Hoop Earrings

Hoop earrings are classic and always in style.  These artisan beauties are my Fine Silver 18 gauge large sleeper hoops in a hammered finish.

Sleeper Hoop Earrings

I also create my Fine Silver Hoops in a variety of sizes, gauges, finishes and other metals.

Handmade Jewelry by Rocki

What's great about this style is that you do not need to fuss with twisting to open & close in order to wear them.  This style hoop has a small gap that you simply slide onto and down your earlobe to insert into your piercing.  Looks just like a closed hoop from behind.

To see more of my handmade to order artisan jewelry, please visit my online shop.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Rustic Handmade Jewerly - PMC Pendant Necklace

PMC Rustic Fine Silver Pendant
My gorgeous solid, earthy and rustic PMC (precious metal clay) artisan pendant necklace is one of a kind and is available now in my handmade jewelry shop.

Handmade Jewelry - one of a kind Pendant Necklace
In a carefree style, I hand formed this very long semi-irregular pendant with Fine Silver Precious Metal Clay, kiln fired, sanded, hand antiqued to bring out the texture and lightly hand polished for a semi-matte look.  For a bit of sparkle I added a couple "crystal" cubic zirconia's.

This would make a fantastic gift for the handmade jewelry lover.  Or keep it for yourself.

Rocki

Unique Earrings - Handmade Jewelry

Squiggle Wiggle Earrings
Over the years I've made many of my Wiggle series handmade earrings.  They are so much fun to make because once I put the wire in my hands, I have no idea how they will end up.  Like my Squiggle Wiggles, which you can find in my etsy jewelry shop.

Go ahead and giggle
over my fun & funky Wiggles!
Looks like a squiggle
and may even make you jiggle!
Add a little fun to your day
and wear a Rocki Wiggle!

What can I say?  Yes, I'm a little outside the box - and I like there.

That's it for today.  As Alice would say "I'm late, I'm late..."  so into the studio I go.

Peace,
Rocki

Swirl Headpins - Handmade Jewelry Findings

Silver Filled Swirls
When you need a little more than just a regular headpin to finish your handcrafted jewelry creation,  add one of my handmade swirl headpin findings!  Besides ball tip, I create a few different style decorative headpins, and I think the swirls may be my favorite!

Antiqued Sterling Silver Swirls
I also do oxidized finish on the Silver and Copper headpins: my uber hot Dark Gunmetal and my beautiful hand brushed Antiqued, as in the above photo.

Copper Swirls
I just love how the swirls look with a simple bead.  Copper always seems to fit the bill with Turquoise, don't you think?

14 karat Gold Filled Swirls
You can find my handmade swirl headpins online in my Etsy Shop and ArtFire Studio.

Rocki

If you love handmade jewelry, my artisan style ball post earrings are the perfect compliment - whether you have one piercing or several.

Sterling Silver Ball Post Earrings
I create my handmade tiny ball studs in Sterling Silver, Fine Silver and Copper metals.

Fine Silver Black Ball Studs
And if you love the oxidized look, my Dark Gunmetal looks uber hot while my Antiqued finish has more of a rustic vintage appeal.

Antiqued Sterling Silver Ball Posts
In my online studios (etsy and artfire) you can find my Ball Post Earrings in a variety of package sizes, but if you are needing more or have other questions, I'm just a click away.  I'm always happy to work with my customers, who I sincerely appreciate!

Little Handmade Ear Wires

Tiny French Hoops in Sterling Silver
I create a wide variety of handmade finding supplies in my studio, from classic to unique designs.  Here is a little tiny (pun intended) sample of my Tiny French Hoops and Wee French ear wires.

Sterling Silver Antiqued Tiny French Hoops
If you like the oxidized look, I have two styles: Dark Gunmetal and Antiqued.  The gunmetal style is a rich dark polish and my antiqued version is a hand brush technique for a lighter oxidized finish.

Sterling Silver Wee French Earwires
When you need a classic, but smaller earring wire for your handcrafted jewelry creation, here is my Wee French earwire.  A cute little Shepard's hook!

Copper Wee French Ear Wires
Besides in Sterling Silver, I also create these adorable little handmade ear wires in Copper, Silver Filled and 14k Gold Filled.

I hope this little post of my tiny little ear wires was enjoyable :)

Artisan Clasp Findings - Square Hook

What better way to complete your handcrafted jewelry creation than with a handmade clasp.

I create and design many styles that can be found in my Etsy and ArtFire online shops.  Today I'm featuring my Square Clasp design.
I create these clasps in Sterling Silver, Copper, 14k Gold Filled and Silver Filled 18 gauge and 20 gauge wire.  If you like your clasps oxidized, I also do that in a Dark Gunmetal and Antiqued finish.

Some designs, like my Rustic copper set above, have a wire wrapped eye link closure while others a jump ring.  Either way, this style truly makes a statement.

Artisan Jewelry - Handmade from the heart

Antiqued Sterling Silver Heart in Diamond Earrings
I truly enjoy making handmade supply findings, but I also love creating metalwork jewelry. Like my Heart in Diamond earrings that can be found in my Rocki's Artisan Metal etsy shop.

When I created these large artistic earrings, hubby said that I should call them "My Heart Is In The Game", because the heart looks like it is in the middle of a baseball diamond. You know, I think he had something there.

So if you're looking for a unique gift for that someone special, I bet you'll hit a home run with these!

Peace,
Rocki

Handmade Jewelry Supply Findings Intro - by Rocki Adams

Handmade Antiqued Ear Wires
I decided to start a second blog dedicated to my work and this post is a brief intro for today. That is me above, well my hands actually ;) and I'm applying an oxidized, hand brush technique to antique an order of Sterling Silver ear wires: my Tiny French Hoops

Oh and my main blog, which I'll be posting more to, can be found here.  That is where I talk about anything that strikes me and also share other talented artists.

My Peaceful Busy Studio
Many years ago, my metalwork bench started out in the garage until I outgrew my little space, at least that’s what hubby said. Then he helped me remodel a spare room into a studio. I don’t know who was happier – me, as I got my very own home studio or very supportive hubby, since he got his garage back!

Variety of some of my Original Design Signature Kites
What I’m most proud of to date are my original design Signature Kites, which have expanded into an entire series of a variety of ear wires and clasps. Formally titled “Go Fly A Kite”, they came to life in 2008 and, well here’s my orignal blog post with more details of their debut: http://rockisrocknbeads.blogspot.com/2009/02/awe-go-fly-kite.html

Coming from the corporate world many moons ago, I had no idea I had a creative side.  So if you have a goal, don’t let anyone or anything stop you. My motto for many years has been "never give up.” No matter if it is a goal to reach or one of many obstacles to overcome that life throws at you - with a positive attitude, strength, determination, faith, willpower and the love and support of family and friends, you will get through it - usually with a better outcome.

Peace,
Rocki
